Do Christians Really Care… About the Red Cup?

I was thinking about the Bible. I love the Word of God. It’s just like real life. Jesus was and still is so misunderstood by people. Lately on social media there has been this “Media Controversy” about the Starbuck’s plain red holiday cup.

Frankly I’m disappointed to see my unbeliever friends posting mean things about Christians. The truth is we Christians don’t care about the red cup. Let me say that again. WE DON’T CARE. The media has told you we are all outraged. It is a lie. We don’t care.

I’ve seen mean snarky posts about how Christians should be caring about the homeless, and doing things for others. In my general experience, those are the things we do care about.

When we see a news story about murder our hearts break. When we see a news story about another school shooting we hug our kids tighter. When we see another family ruined by a stupid drunk driver, we pray. When we see a homeless man taking shelter from the rain under a grocery store awning, we buy him a sandwich and a 7-Up. This winter my church is filling backpacks with rain ponchos, clean socks and other necessities for the homeless in our community.

When we see a news story about Starbuck’s red cups, we don’t care. Shame on the media for manufacturing “news.” For taking one guy who made one comment and turning it into collective Christian “outrage.” Shame on any of you who think any Christian you know cares about the red cup. Stop being so mean.
